What Are The Chances Of Recurrent Henoch-Schonlein Purpura In Elderly People?
I had what was just called purpura when I was 7 with red and purple spots on legs and stomach pain and then when I was in the hospital it was internal bleeding.
So now at 64 I have kidney pain and recently had so much blood in my urine I could see it with my eyes. I had a lot of kidney pain and 2 Cat scans that ruled out kidney stones.
Not Henoch Schonlein purpura

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Henoch schonlein purpura does not usually occur in elderly and yes, recurrence are seen, but never these years apart.
Even if it were to be present now, your skin rashes, abdominal pain would have been present before involvement of kidney.
Blood in urine has numerous causes. Most common would be urinary tract infection, then tumors, then stones.
If you still have blood in urine, then urine examination would have showed other cells too. White blood cells or bacteria, if present would indicate urinary tract infection.
Tumors and stones would have shown on the scan.
Possibly, stone while coming through could have hurt the mucosa resulting in bleeding and the stone, must have gone in urine. You must have felt the pain during the stone movement and seen the bleeding later on.
If there is no bleeding now, not to worry.
If you still think Henoch Schonlein purpura, look for rashes in skin, which is the commonest presentation.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
