What Are The Chances Of Recurrent Epileptic Attack?

Question: my 15 year old son had epileptic attack in May 2014. All the brain tests like EEG & sleep based EEG were all normal. Our neurologist suggested no medicine as it was the 1st & only 1 attack. It is 1 year now . my son is healthy & has no attack since then. Want to know what r the chances of epileptic attack . Also how many years we have to be very carefull with him. we have no family history of epilepcy on any side of our family

I agree with his neurologist's approach. Single seizures do not require medications, as most people do not get second seizures.

In the first six months, the chance of getting seizures are highest (almost 50% people get second seizures). However, if he has remained seizure-free for one year, now the chances are very low (about 15%). You need to watch him for a total of three years.
