What Are The Early Signs Of An Appendix?
As detailed below.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Noted the history. There are early "symptoms" that is the complaints felt by the patient.
There are early "signs" meaning the observations on clinical evaluation and examination by a Doctor, preferably by a General Surgeon or a Surgical Gastroenterologist.
Early "symptoms" are as follows:
These will vary as per the age of patient, severity of inflammation or obstruction in the appendix in the form of fecolith, pain tolerance of the patient and position of appendix.
Usually, the pain starts in the upper abdomen above the belly button and shifts to the right iliac fossa of the abdomen.
This is the area between the umbilicus and right side of the hip bone. There may be associated with nausea, vomiting, loose stools or constipation. Fever may or may not be present.
Rarely the pain may be referred to back if the inflamed appendix is lying behind the large bowel.
The ''Signs" as observed and examined by the Doctor also vary by the factors as explained above.
Tenderness on the pressure in right iliac fossa, rebound tenderness and others on specific clinical tests.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
Regards,
Dr T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
