What Are The Effects Of Overdose Of Restyl?
Flumazenil, a specific antidote for Restyl toxicity
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting your query.
I appreciate your concern for the patient who has consumed larger doses of Restyl apparently resulting in overdosage.
As in all cases of drug overdosage, primarily respiration, pulse rate, and BP should be monitored.
In addition to the medications given above, an adequate airway should maintained. If hypotension (low BP) occurs, it can be raised by the use of vasopressors like Norepinephrine.
Flumazenil, a specific antidote for Restyl toxicity is indicated for the complete reversal and may be used. It is used as an adjunct to the proper management of the overdose caused by ingestion of Restyl tablets.
Necessary resuscitation should be available to secure airway, ventilation and intravenous access while Flumazenil is being administered.
Patients treated with Flumazenil should be monitored for re-sedation & respiratory depression.
Hope this answers your query.
Should you need more clarifications, please feel free to send your query.
Wishing your patient a quick and successful recovery.
The patient needs to be monitored.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Viyakumar Mudanna, Hi
Welcome back to HCM.
I appreciate your concern about your patient.
I am glad to know that your patient is recovering and appears to be in stable condition almost out of danger.
Flumazenil is a specific antidote to reverse the sedative effects of benzodiazepine drugs like Restyl and has to be administered as early as possible to get its maximum benefits.
Since more than 24 hours have passed and she received meticulous treatment in the form of IV fluids, Inj Lasix, and her Oxygen saturation is also acceptable so she is responding to the therapy.
Now, since the patient is stable, oriented and able to take oral fluids so he/she is recovering from the the CNS depressant effects of Restyl.
So, nothing to worry.
Benzodiazepines drugs like Restyl when taken for a longer period of time may affect the cognitive functions like impairment of memory, judgement, drowsiness, etc.
Hope this answers your query.
Wishing your patient a quick and smooth recovery.
Regards
