Brief Answer:
Can cause bleeding

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Side effect of blood thinner is bleeding which can be major bleed or some minor bleed.
GI side effect include nausea or GI bleed.
As you have history of recurrent clots you should definitely be on blood thinner and preferably life long.
If you have bleeding episode do remember to consult your doctor soon.
I also wanted to know which blood thinner are you on?

Thanks and take care

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Major long and short term side effect of blood thinner is bleeding.
And now as i know the blood thinner is warfarin,
over long term use it may cause taste disturbance, hepatitis, risk of fracture increase with long term intake.
Minor unnoticed bleeding can result in anemia.
Remember to check your PT/ INR on regular basis (which you already must be doing).

For your information their are newer blood thinners available like Dabigatran, Apixaban, Rivaroxaban which have lesser bleeding risk and less side effects but are relatively costly than warfarin.

Thanks and take care
