I do have a follow up question.
Since my operation, I have developed a large incisional hernia.
Can you advise on complications and treatment for this?
Regards, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX

There is little chance of a recurrence of the "original condition".
I was misdiagnosed with bowel cancer and after having two thirds of my Colon removed I was told that there had been nothing there.
The only reason I have not lost complete faith in the medical profession is because my late father and his brother and my three cousins were/are all Doctors.
I believe my uncle has a wing of Burton-on-Trent Hospital named after him.

Hello and welcome

Your concern is appreciated

The procedure which involes removal of most of the colon and the rectum and anal canal is left intact its called subtotal colectomy. The side effects include in short term like bleeding, infection, leakage from the anastomosis, post surgery patient are prone to develop thrombosis so early mobolity is advised
In long term people can have loose stools and frequent bowl movements as most of the colon is lost the concentrating ability of it is also lost.
The incisional hernia can occur after any surgical operation being done on
abdomen. The risk factor for it are obesity, weak abdominal wall and bleeding at time of surgery and infections etc.
The hernia should be operated but if its not symptomatic in elderly than it can be left alone to watch if it develops complication like strangulation then can be operated for.

Hope it helps
Thanks
