What Are The Positive And Negative Effects Of Menopause?
Various effects of menopause.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
In a normally menstruating woman, cessation of the menses is regarded as menopause.
It is the absence of periods for a period of more than 6 months and may be associated with a variety of symptoms and demonstrable hormonal changes.
It usually takes place between the 40 to 55 years of age.
But sometimes there is some variation in it.
It can cause a variety of symptoms and effects on the female body.
As menopause indicates cessation of menses and wearing out of ovarian function, it makes the woman incapable of getting pregnant and also stops her menstrual period.
But due to deficiency of estrogen hormone, there is a rapid decrease in bone mass and calcium content of the bones, no added protection about cardiovascular risk factors.
Also, there is atrophy of the lining of the urogenital tract making it more vulnerable to infection.
Certain vasomotor symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, palpitations are also seen in many women.
Also, in many women, there are changes in behaviour patterns, increased irritability, lack of cognition, mood swings.
Usually, these symptoms are seen more pronounced in women with surgical menopause following hysterectomy.
Symptoms can last for a few months to a couple of years.
Take care
