What Are The Precautions To Be Taken While Suffering From Seasonal Allergy?

Question: Hello, My nine year old son has currently develop seasonal allergy and noticed that he has developed very bad breath. It seems to have developed in his nose and when he blows his nose the mucus smells horribly. I did a saline wash in his nose, which seemed to help quite a bit. But it comes back. I feel horrible for him and wondering what is needed at this point. I had taken him to the doctor and he prescribed antibiotics and said it was a sinus infection. As well I give him a spray at night which is a chortezone. Although the smell has been not as bad since the meds, it is still there. When he blows his nose, it is very mucus and has an odor. I am sad, because he has now developed a complex because of it. Is there anything else I can do??
Brief Answer:
Repeat saline wash and steam inhalation
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
From your description I understand that your son has allergic rhinitis and sinusitis.
Your doctor has rightly prescribed antibiotics and you are doing exactly the correct thing in giving it along with saline wash.
I would suggest you to repeat saline wash daily till the secretions are cleared.
Continue the nasal spray at night which is important in controlling allergy.
Also try steam inhalation which might help his secretions to get thin and come out.
Don't worry it should settle down in a few days.
Wishing your son good health and speedy recovery.
