What Are The Reasons One Would Not Get Their Periods For Over Half A Year?
My cousin does not get periods for about six months, she has been visiting various doctors and tried different medication but it does not improve her health condition.
How to treat this, is this common?
Cause of delay needs to be detected.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
The reasons for delayed periods may be hormonal imbalance, emotional upset, anxiety, stress, or other medical conditions that affect the ovaries, uterus, hypothalamus, or pituitary gland. Hypothyroidism, polycystic ovarian syndrome or less frequently a pituitary tumor causing high prolactin levels or a hypothalamic disease are other causes that need proper investigations to find the exact cause of such a delay.
In this case, one pelvic ultrasound scan and complete hormone tests (like LH/ FSH, Estrogen, serum Prolactin, Thyroid, DHEAS etc) will be worthwhile to rule out the underlying cause and confirm the diagnosis. You must consult with her local GYNECOLOGIST for proper evaluation so that treatment can be started based on the cause.
I hope this answers your query. In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out. Wishing you good health.
