What Are The Repercussions Of Repetitive Vomiting?
Question: I throw up a lot from having an anxiety disorder. I was dry heaving hard today into the sink and throwing up just regular yellow bile as I haven't eaten anything today. A little black mucous looking chunk came up, a little smaller than the size of a dime. When I put it on a paper towel it smeared a brown streak. My vomit since has been clear of chunks, so I don't know if it's serious or not. I tried google and can only find articles on black coffee ground specs. This was not a "spec" and not multiple specs like coffee grounds, just one black a little smaller than dime sized ball. It kind of looked like, pardon for the gross image, but a miniature version of the black chunks passed during menstruation, but it smeared out once on paper towel. I kept throwing up after the chunk came out and it was only water and yellow bile, no more chunks, but am I in danger? I have included a close up picture, and a picture next to my hand for size reference of the smear.
Brief Answer:
This happened most likely due to forceful vomiting
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Repetitive vomiting or forceful vomiting sometimes result in minor injuries to esophagus and pharyngeal wall or even tear of small blood vessels. This results in sometimes blood stains in vomiting. This is not a serious thing, but repetitive vomiting could result in recurrence.
You are not in danger. You can have antacid for a couple of days for quick healing.
Thanks. The pictures are also showing blood stains only. This is not a thing to get worried. If the blood in large in amount then that could be from stomach ulcers.
You are welcome to ask again.
Take care
