What Are The Risk Factors For The Development Of Aortic Aneurysm In A Child?
Question: What it the likely hood that a 16 year will get an aortic aneurysm?
Hi
Thanks for asking.
Risk factors for the development of aortic aneurysm are:
Coronary Artery Disease
Hypertension
Hypercholesterolemia
Hyperhomocysteinemia
Elevated C-reactive protein
Tobacco use
Peripheral vascular disease
Marfan syndrome
Ehlers-Danlos type IV
As you can see, most of the risk factors are acquired and are relevant in later part of life. However, few congenital conditions like marfan and ehler danlos syndrome can present in early life.
All in all the risk of aortic aneurysm in 16 years of age is very low.
Please let me know if you require further information.
Thanks.
