Question: Hi, my fiancee was charged with domestic violence early Wed. morning and then tried to commit suicide on Thurs.. He was taking amlodipine, colcrys, and allopurinal at the time. He was unaware of their side effects and warnings and also had consumed a good amount of alcohol. Some of his nurses and Drs have mentioned it may have been caused by this, as all of these behaviors are very uncharacteristic for him. I am trying to get charges for at least the domestic violence dropped, and have been asked for any information on these drugs and their side effects and a doctors backing in that matter. Any information you could give me would be helpful. Thanks so much,
XXXX
Brief Answer:
Amlodipine may cause depression
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Amlodipine may cause depression and hyperparathyroidism/high levels of parathyroid gland hormone that are related to suicidal thoughts or attempts.
Colcrys and Allopurinol are not associated with any effect on the mental state of a person. However combining their use with alcohol intake can aggravate an attack of Gout and can cause an electrolyte imbalance in the body due to excessive diuresis.
I hope this answers your query.
