Thanks Doctor. Your answer was relief.
But I just wanted to add that our doc had prescribed Ascoril LS for about 5 days ,once when my son had severe cold and chest congestion. I don't know if the chemist had given Ascoril expectorant by mistake or we replaced it by mistake. We were not aware about its variants. He was fine with no noticeable side effects. (just a shiver for a few seconds, but I guess its because of the weather). Then when he caught cold a second time and when the doctor asked us to continue ascoril, I guess we gave him the same expectorant and once or twice we have given it by ourselves when he had cough , but not for more than 1-2 days. Recently noticed that 100 ml botlle was finished over a period of time. Suddenly releaised that it is not the LS variant we had been giving. Is there any serious concern? Is there any major difference between the two variants? Feels very guilty.

Dear Mr XXXXXXX
Let me reassure you both the preparation serve the same function with some difference in contents.
Both contain Guiphenesin which is an expectorant. Both contains bronchodilator( Ascoril LS contains Levosalbutamol whereas Ascoril expectorant contains Terbutaline which is comparatively longer acting). So there is nothing to be worried about or feel guilty.
It is always important to cross verify the information with Pediatrican if in doubt instead of having stress latter on.
Rest be assured there is no cause for concern.
Wishing you and your family a very happy and healthy life

Deepak
