Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that there are not many studies on this drug effects on the women sexual activity.

But, in men it is known to cause impotence in a less than 1% as an adverse effect.

Besides, it is known to reduce the physical performance and cause fatigue in up to 25% of the patients.

Anyway, these adverse effects are usually related to the dose.

I would like to know the dose that your doctor prescribed and the reason of this treatment choice.

Hope to have been helpful!

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me again!

Kind regards,

6.25 mg I am a patient for over 10 years as I complained about pressure in my chest when physically active at age 50. 6 stress tests showed no issue, however, when I persisted in complaint had a Cardio Catherization and found a 90% blockage in the LAD. No heart attack ever occurred, and a Stint was inserted. Since that time I have been symptom free and no issues.
It was noted at that time the valve was leaking. Which I understand is not uncommon, however. when I recently had a Cardio Gram it seems the valve is leaking more now. Dr felt there was too much pressure coming from the lung and did another recent Cardio XXXXXXX and pressure was normal

Carvedilol was prescripted just prior to the recent Cardio XXXXXXX And I am experiencing less sexual interest and inability to climax. I have been very active sexually until the medication was prescribed and taken.

wondering if there is a correllation.

thank you

My answer as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Thank you for the additional information!

I would agree with you on the fact that carvedilol could be related to your complaints (decrease of sexual interest). The fact that these complaints started as soon as you started taking carvedilol is another argument which relates your complaints to carvedilol adverse effects.

Anyway, you should know that this is a really low dose and you can not reduce it further.

If this situation persists, I would recommend discussing with your prescribing doctor on other possible treatment options.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Wishing good health,

Dr. Iliri
