Brief Answer:
Clonidine should be gradually tapered off.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your concern your doctor is right when he thinks to reduce high BP therapy. Clonidine is the first drug to start with, as its use is commonly associated with potential side effects, and because its stopping needs a gradual tapering off, in order to avoid rebound effects occurring. So, the decision to reduce clonidine from 2 per day to one is correct. Possibly, a further dose reduction and stopping will be needed, regarding two other drugs. But every step should be undertaken after continuing advice and supervision of your prescribing doctor. The best guidance to manage therapy modification would be BP values, and possible side effects.
Hope to have been helpful to you.
Feel free to ask me whenever you need. Greetings! Dr. Iliri
