What Are The Side Effects Of Clopidogrel?
antiplatelet drug
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
clopidogrel is an antiplatelet drug that helps to reduce the risk for thrombosis. Bleeding is the most serious and one of the most common side effects of this drug. This drugs prevents the formation of blood clots so when bleeding occurs it lasts for longer than in normal individuals (without the drug that is). It also increases the risk for gastrointestinal bleeding (probably less than aspirin though). It also cause various symptoms including headache, dizziness, angina (!), joint pain, rhinitis and other upper respiratory tract disorders, rash, urinary tract infections, etc.
The decision to start an antiplatelet drug depends on the patient's risk for future cardiovascular events. In high risk patients, the drug is definitely beneficial with current knowledge. In patients at small or moderate risk it's potentially dangerous without significant benefit.
