Question: I have putting on weight around my middle in the last 3 months, My age is 76 my height is 5ft 4in my weight has gone from 70kg to 74.5kg. I have stopped working 3 months ago, still work part time, I enjoy gardening but with a bigger middle I am having a had job to get down, I can not bend my left knee as I can only bend it 65 degrees I have been taking Doxazosin for about 3 months as I have mild blood pressure 138 over 68 . Should I stop taking this medication?

I read your question and I understand your concern. Doxazosine is not causing this weight gain. It's sedentary lifestyle secondary to reduced activity in last 3 months with no job activity plus old age has challenges of losing weight and predispositions for easy gain.

Also the weight gain is not that much. It's over weight range of 28 approximately. Old age is acceptable at this range.

Adapt high protein. Low carbohydrate diet and drink plenty of fluids. Activity is mandatory. Do gardening regularly and if difficulty sitting do it standing with longer tools.

Good lifestyle and healthy diet will fix the issue. Don't stop alpha blockers.
