What Are The Side Effects Of Duphaston?
Question: My husband and I are trying for a baby. I got my periods on 22nd August. Then I had some bleeding and streaking on 4th Sept. On getting a sonography done, the gynac informed me that possibly it was ovulation bleeding. (The urine pregnancy test was negative) . The following month my periods were delayed by 10 days (expected date 22 Sept. delayed till 1st Oct). I have a normal 28-29 days cycle. I did 3 urine pregnancy tests, they were all negative. My gynac prescribed duphaston 10 mg fr 5 days. How long should i wait before i get my periods. Does this medicine cause weight gain and/or bloating? How much weight gain can be caused based on the above mentioned dose? If yes...how soon can I lose the gained weight. I have subclinical hypothyroidism. I am currently taking the medication for it and is under control.
Brief Answer:
Common to have delayed periods
Detailed Answer:
I would first suggest that we do a blood pregnancy test to be very sure. This is a must before starting duphaston - if it's negative you may take duphaston as advised.
If you restrict food and salt intake during medication you wouldn't gain weight. The gain is normally 100-200 gms which you can easily shed.
But if the periods are repeatedly irregular, I will also suggest that we do blood prolactin level.
