What Are The Side Effects Of Fluoxetine?
Question: Hi doctor - I have been prescribed 30 mg (20+10) fluoxetine + etizolam 0.5+ betacap tr 20 in the morning by my doctor. Along with that I take mirtaz 15+ olimelt 3.75 (2.5+1/2of2.5). Have observed that I feel very drowsy after taking morning medication especially fluoxetine. Was wanting to check with you if I can take 20 fluoxetine in the morning and 10 in the night. Will it help me with my morning drowsiness. Also I have heard that it can give insomnia, is it true for everyone? Was worried if taking 10 in the night could cause insomnia! Since I have holiday tomorrow and day after, was wanting to change the dose 20 in the morning and 10 in the night to see how I feel. Would you advice that? Also if causes drowsiness in the morning, what are the chances that taking 10 in the night might cause insomnia to me?
Brief Answer:
You can take it in afternoon

Hello again, thanks for asking again
Yes, fluoxetine causes slight activation and thus insomnia in some but that is not seen in every individual taking it. In some it may produce drowsiness. But it is not advisable to take it in evening hours. If 30 mg in morning is causing drowsiness then you can take 20 mg in morning after breakfast and then 10 mg after lunch in afternoon. This will make the drug more tolerable. And yes 10 mg is a low dose even if you take it in night it would not cause much problems, you can take it as per your convince.
