What Are The Side Effects Of Levolin And Budecort?

Question: Hi Doctor,
My son is 3 years old and a year back I relocated to a area that has construction going on around it. Due to this my son has developed persistent cough since past one year. He has gone from nebulizing with levolin and budecort to inhalers (Huff puff) now. In between I had also tried homeopathy to no relief. Doctor its almost 2 months since he is on inhalers (Levolin twice daily one puff and Budecort twice daily one puff). Attimes his allergy goes multifold with continous coughing and throwing up for which doctor has given Ascoril C 2.5 ml every 8 hrs for 3 days.
Doctor my query is what are the side effects (short term and long term) for my child with all this. Since almost a year now he is on levolin and budecort and inbetween has gone through steroid doses too. When will he outgrow this allergy as we don't have a history of allergy in our family.
Please advice

Brief Answer:
He would most likely outgrow it before adulthood

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthCareMagic. I have gone through the details and understand your concerns. Most children outgrow childhood asthma or such allergic reactions that trigger bronchospasm, before they reach adulthood. However, in a small number of cases, it may persist even in adulthood. For such episodes, levolin and budecort need to be given and you need not worry about the side effects. I would not consider any major long term side effect with levolin. The short terms side effects could be palpitations and increased heart rate. At times, certain electrolyte imbalance could also occur. But the benefits outweigh the risks and you need not worry. About budecort, the side effects could be more serious. It could interfere with growth and development including mental development. But since it is not being given systemically, and since not much goes into systemic circulation when given in the form of nebulisation, I would consider it safe.
