What Are The Side Effects Of Oxycodone?

default
Posted on Tue, 10 Nov 2015
Question: My question is regarding pain meds. specifically Oxycodone. I am on Oxycodone for severe trochanteric bursitis, Degenerative Disc Dz. Fibromyalgia, with severe chronic pain everyday. Would you please tell me why this medicine seems to make me feel so very hot and sweaty after taking it? I have not asked my doctor this question as I seem to forget as we have many other things to talk about when I visit him q. 2 to 3 months. Please advise as this causes me to be hot all the time especially when doing activities and everybody is comfortable but me. Why is this so? Thank you so much for your thoughts.

Brief Answer:
It is a rare side effect of taking oxycodone

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. I completely understand how you feel and you would be glad to at least know that one of the side effects of taking oxycodone is 'a feeling of warmth or heat'; although this is one of the more rare side effects of taking this medication.

So the main and only reason you feel that way is because of the oxycodone, and you can report this to your doctor whenever you manage to meet him/her; and if at all this seems to be turning into a problem or keeps you uncomfortable then you can request your doctor for an immediate change in prescription and to substitute the oxycodone with another drug that serves the same purpose but with more tolerable or no side effects.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.

As a Registered Nurse I would like more clarification on why this happens. Not just well that is rare and you will feel warm. I want to know exactly what is happening in the body to make this sensation happen. I can take any one of my other meds. B/P; Cholesterol; Diabetic Meds. and this does not happen. Why with pain medication is this happening? That is the question I am asking. What physically happens to make me have this severe flushing sensation with water dripping down my face and the back of my neck? Once again thank you for you thoughts.

Brief Answer:
It has been associated with the increased pumping of blood

Detailed Answer:
Hello once again ma'am.

The sensation of warmth or feeling of heat that is associated with the consumption of oxycodone was reported to be due to the irregular heartbeat, increased or rapid heart beat, rapid pulse, etc; which cause blood to flow faster than it usually does or in an irregular manner resulting in heat travelling through the body.

Although this side effect is listed as one of the more rare findings, in my opinion it should be experienced more often by individuals on the medications as irregular and rapid heartbeat is one of the most common side effects of taking oxycodone, which in turn should result in the feeling of warmth or sensation of heat.

I hope this makes things a little more clear to you. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes.
