What Are The Side Effects Of Reglan?
I've tried to avoid foods that were not GP friendly but now find that there is a ingredient called malodextrin showing up in about everything. The script was given me by my primary Doctor. I see the
gastroenterologist. The reason for the script is I may start the day with a soft stool movement but then the diarrhea happens, I have only taken 4 pills so far from yesterday. Same thing normal movement & now diarrhea seems to have increased. Is it the medicine. My primary also mentioned IBS. Thank you.
Raglan (metoclopramide) is the possible cause of the diarrhea
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern
Raglan is a gastro kinetic and can lead to diarrhea. Hyosciamine is not a pro kinetic and will not help in gastroparesis. It is basically an anti spasmodic agent that will be helpful with regards to the IBS. You can lower the dose of raglan or stop it if the diarrhea and cramping get severe. For the IBS rifaximin and sucralfate can be given for a month to see for improvement. It will also help in subsiding the diarrhea as rifaximin is a non absorbing antibiotic that doesn't systemically go into the blood stream from the gut significantly. Take plenty of fluids and if available hyosciamine can also be taken now.
Wishing you best of health
Thanks
