Question: I have a tfcc tear and an extra long ulnar. I'm a full time hairstylist working on this every day. I have pain 75% of the time. What are the pros and con's of tfcc repair and ulnar shortening surgery. How long before I could reasonably return to work? Will it get worse if I don't have the repair?

Brief Answer:
Benefit of this operation is deformity will be corrected and pain will reduce.

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. You are having TFCC tear and long ulna. You want to know about TFCC repair and ulnar shortening. Benefit of this operation is deformity will be corrected and pain will reduce. Your wrist function will be improved and relatively pain free. Risk of operation is nonunion of osteotomy made to shortening of fractured and other general risks involved with operations. It is likely to take 3 months to function normally. However you can reasonably return to work after 1month. If you don't operate it then, some worsening of it is expected with time.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
If Osteotomy is fixed with plate then you can use it after one month.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
If it is fixed with plate and screw then it can be used after 1 month without disturbing outcome.

Osteotomy is place where bone is cut to shorten it. When it doesn't unite it is called nonunion.
You can discuss with your doctor about it.

If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

why does the cold/damp weather make it ache soo much?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Dr. Sudhir Kumar (4 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Lower Barometric pressure has been blamed.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
All types of muscle and joint pains are more in cold/ damp whether. Exact cause is unknown. One leading theory points to changes in air pressure. The thing that affects people most is barometric pressure.Barometric pressure is the weight of the atmosphere that surrounds us.If you imagine the tissues surrounding the joints to be like a balloon, high barometric pressure that pushes against the body from the outside will keep tissues from expanding. But barometric pressure often drops before bad weather sets in. This lower air pressure pushes less against the body, allowing tissues to expand and those expanded tissues can put pressure on the joint. It is very microscopic and we can hardly notice, except that we have these sensations.
Everything else already discussed.
