What Are The Side Effects Of Tamsolusin?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Apr 2015
Question: I was tamsolusin for 2 years for enlarged prostate. Last April 2014, I got a laser surgery for the prostate. I stopped tamsolusin in May 2014. I have eustachian tube dysfunction, started in 1 and 1/2 years ago - my ears are clogged, my voice is echo chamber in my head, the sounds magnify on the streets, speech discrimination and hearing loss. My urologist told me side effects from tamsulosin go to eustachian tube. My life is terrible. I went to 8 or 9 ear specialists, They told me don't have surgery for the eustachian tubes - it's risky. What can I do at this point for the eustachian tubes? Thank you! XXXXXXX Rosenberg

Brief Answer:
audiometry and CT scan of para nasal sinuses.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having Eustachian tube dysfunction. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any nasal obstruction or head-ache ?
Is there any burning sensation in chest or regurgitation of partially digested food ?

Kindly get back to me with the details.

Answers and solutions for your queries.

1. tamsulosin does not cause any ear related adverse events.

2. Repeated or recurrent episodes of Eustachian tube dysfunction could be due to sinusitis or acid reflux.

3. At 64 years, age related deafness also causes ear blockage and sounds in ear secondary to nerve degeneration.

4. In case of conductive deafness ( Eustachian tube dysfunction) correction of sinusitis with surgery or by steam inhalation, valsalva exercises (watch you tube video) and anti allergic plus decongestants medications will be helpful. In sensorineural deafness, hearing aids are the choice.

I suggest you to re evaluate with ent surgeon go ahead with investigations like audiometry and CT scan of para nasal sinuses. If you have already done, kindly attach the reports.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Dear Dr. Abubakar Siddiqh,
This the 3rd follow-up to you. Hopefully the submit button will work.
When I'm sleeping, the right or the left nasal passage close down. Sometimes I get headaches, just for a few minutes. Sometimes the bones in my head get painful.
I don't have burning sensation in my chest and don't regurgitation of partially digested food. "Speech discrimination" gets worse everyday.
Thank you! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Sinusitis secondary to deviated nasal septum.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Alternate blockage of nasal passages always occurs due to sinusitis secondary to deviated nasal septum.

Worsening of speech discrimination is a sign of sensorineural deafness.

Kindly go ahead for CT scan of para nasal sinuses and hearing aid trial.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
