What Are The Side Effects Of Doing A CT Scan With Both IV Contrast And Oral Contrast?
Question: Hi doctor,
Yesterday I was doing a ct scan with both IV contrast and oral contrast on my abdomen and gut because I’m having spastic colon.
After I drank the oral contrast and entered to undergo the CT I was kind of normal BUT as soon as the contrast was injected in me I felt like a heat coming down through my hands passing to my arms on to my chest and the my stomach and SUDDENLY I felt like vomiting and some liquid when forcefully back to my throat and then I vomited the water. After that happened I entered the toilet and found water stool this was 18 hours and up till now whenever I enter the toilet I have a watery diahreah.
Please guide me, is this a side effect from the contrast?
If so what must I do?
Am I in risk?
When should my stool become solid again?

Brief Answer:
Yes, this is normal.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes, this is normal thing after oral contrast. You can call this as side effect of oral contrast.
Diarrhea is commonly seen after oral contrast for 1-2 days.
So in my opinion, you should wait for 1 day more.
If diarrhea persist after 2 days of oral contrast, you should definitely consult your doctor.
At present drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
Take oral rehydration solution (ORS) and zinc tablet.
Don't eat oily and spicy food. Eat more curd and yogurt.
You will have normal solid stool after 2 days. Don't worry.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
