Question: I am interested in possible side effects of silver alginate. My wife is 97 years old and silver alginite dressings are being used on her foot between toes. She is somewhat confused and extremely sleepy.

This dressing is made of alginate fibers. If the fibers are left in place, they may cause a long-lasting foreign body reaction with pain, redness, or swelling.
Thorough flushing of the wound with water should be done after the dressing is removed to remove any debris.
It is the beginning of influenza season in USA. Persons older than 65years are at high risk for complications should they come down with flu. PLEASE make sure that both of you get your influenza vaccine as soon as possible.
