What Are The Side Effects Of Using Alfuzosin?

Question : I am generally in very good health but have BPH for almost 3 years. For more than 2 years, I take avodart 3 times a week, alfuzosin 10 mg daily and prostavar 3 tablets daily. Prostavar is naturals for bph abd has saw palmetto etc. I am ok with my urination. I tried to stop alfuzosin but that did not work. Yet I am concerned about having to keep taking alfuzosin indefinitely. What are my options. Should I try alfuzosin 5 mg daily? Does taking alfuzosin for 5 years create serious side effects? Thanks.

Thanks for query .

Based on the facts that you have posted you seem to have obstructive voiding symptoms due to Enlarged Prostate (BPH).

The drug Alfusin belongs to group of drugs called Alpha one receptor blockers.It helps to relax smooth muscles in bladder neck and prostate itself and there by help to dilate the prostatic part of urethra and helps to improve urine flow .

It has 24 action and is not dose dependent .The effective dose is 10 mg once daily .
and reducing dose to 5 mg will not have desired effect as far as urine flow is concerned .There is no harm in taking it for longer duration as long as you are getting satisfactory results .

Thank you for your reply. You mentioned I may have obstructive voiding symptoms. What is that? Is it different from BPH? Also taking Alfuzosin for say 5 years- will that have other side effects? Are there many people who take it for 5 or even 10 years. Thank you.

poor urinary stream which are due to BPH.
