What Are The Side Effects Of Using Meftal P And Suppository?

Looks like viral fever - Do not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi....This seem like a viral illness. Fever of 1day or few hours need not be worried about. High temperature sometime can cause fever induced fits but it is highly unpredictable. My advice is never panic for high fever alone...rather than that, what is more important is how kid is in between fever, that is, when the fever comes down after giving fever medicine.
Please do not panic just because you have given one dose of Mefenamic acid. I hope you have read my article regarding Mefenamic acid as I mentioned last time.
Coming to your queries -
1. For fever you should give only Paracetamol at maximum of 15mg/kg/dose every 4-6th hourly that too only if temperature is more than 100F. For you r kid who is weighing 15kg, you can give Syrup P-250 4ml as mentioned above.
2. Other thing you can do is put normal room temperature soaked kerchief on the forehead.
3. NO precaution can be taken to avoid fever completely as any trivial infection can cause fever and fever is an indication that the kid's body is trying to fight out the infection...as simple as that.
4. Please do not use Meftal-P or Mefenamic acid. I never use it for any of my patients and I do not approve of using it.
5. Best for controlling fever is only Paracetamol as mentioned above.
I will be happy to help any number of times, but please take my advise ans do not use Mefenamic acid as on the long run it is not good for kidneys.
I wish your kid a speedy recovery. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help. You can approach me at the following link. Please find the link below.

Hi...I will come to your queries directly.
1. Ibuprofen is better alternative than Mefenamic acid. Yes you can give it at 10mg/kg /dose every 8th hourly only. Plain Ibuprofen comes as Syrup Ibugesic at the strength of 100mg/5ml.
2. But do not use combination of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen like Ibugesic Plus.
3. You can do cold sponging with room temperature water but not with chill cold or XXXXXXX warm water.
4. Giving suppository is not at all unless the kid has lost consciousnesses and the medicine cannot be given orally. Here after avoid it.
5. Unless the the kid is having a brain infection or bone and joint infection or severe weight loss or recurrent skin abscesses or lung infections requiring hospitalization - it doesn't mean that your kid has got immunodeficiency.
So I do not think that you should be worrying about immunodeficiency.
The normal healthy food we give is good for normal natural immunity. So do not worry.
Regarding viral illness, I will tell you the same thing which i told you last time - Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. Initial 48 hours of fever the kids will be down only. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
