Rheumatoid Arthritis starts with joint pains and swellings. Initially there may only be pain along with early morning stiffness or increased stiffness after prolonged rest. As the disease progresses, you start noticing swelling of the joints as well. The most common joints we see are the hand joints, finger joints, wrist joint, foot joints and then the larger ones like knee, elbow and shoulder eventually come. It can also cause low grade fever and fatigue especially if the joint symptoms are severe.

Signs: We can appreciate swelling and pain at the joints on examination. Patient will wince on touch. Clinical examination is the key sign. If the disease is advanced or not controlled for long time, doctor can appreciate deformities as well

Lab Parameters: Raised ESR, CRP, Rheumatoid factor and Anti CCP antibody positive
