Symptoms of Hiatal hernia are acid reflux,chest pain,increased heart rate etc.It is commonly associated with Obesity.
Diagnosis is by Upper GI Endoscopy.
Weight has to be kept under control.Initially,Proton pump inhibitor like Rabeprazole has to be given.If there is no response, then Laparoscopic Fundoplication can be done.

In Hiatal hernia,the gap between two sides of diaphragm will be more leading to Sliding of the stomach through it.
In Fundoplication, the Gap is sutured and the Fundus part of the stomach is wrapped around lower end of esophagus and sutured.It can be done Laparoscopically with good results. In Laparoscopy, there is no need for big incision.Few small 1cm incisions are given and the procedure can be completed by introducing instruments through these .
