What Are The Symptoms Of HIV?
Question: Hi - On Dec 30, 2014, a stripper kissed me twice for less than 2 seconds each using her tongue. I do not know her health status and I do not re-collect any blood being involved. I was not involved in any other risky activity. Is there a chance I might be infected with HIV? I am really worried and anxious. Please help me come out of this. I did a testing after 3 months (13th week, 92 days after the incident) using the Ora quick Swab test and tested negative. Will I be infected? What is the probability I might be infected? Since the Swab test proved negative, can I move on without further worry? I am highly worried. Please advise...

I understand your concern and situation.
HIV is usually not spread through shaking of hands, hugging, or a casual kiss as in your case. So there is no need to worry. HIV cannot spread through physical contact unless you have an open wound which comes into contact with the body fluids of an HIV-positive person.The CDC has reported one case that suggests a woman contracted HIV through exposure to her partner's contaminated blood during open-mouth kissing. If an infected partner has blood in his or her mouth, an open-mouth kiss could lead to transmission of the virus through the other partner's mucous membrane lining the inside of the mouth. If the receiving partner has mouth or lip abrasions (i.e., serious gum disease, cuts, open sores, cold sores), the virus has a better chance of being absorbed. But since you have got tested for HIV in your case you are negative and need not worry. No need for further tests. Just relax and remove the fear of HIV from your mind. The probability is very very less. Almost insignificant, so move on don't sweat much on it.

Thanks for the reply doctor. That was convincing. I am going to try not to worry about it anymore. Last 3 months was hellish.
So the swab test would have been accurate right, is it? Would you recommend anymore swab testing at some specific weeks? If no more testing is required as you mentioned, I will just try to take this off my mind and move on. Please confirm. Thanks for the answer again.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention it can take up to 6 months for antibodies for HIV to develop but most people (97%) will develop detectable antibodies in the first 3 months following the time of their infection as in your case. In your case there is no need for test as risk is negligible. But to allay your curiosity you can get tested at 6 months. If you want to get tested earlier there are more sensitivite tests like 4 th generation ELISA or PCR tests available which are nearly 100% sensitive after 6-8 weeks of exposure.
