What Are The Symptoms Of Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome?
Question: hello doctor,
my name is XXXXXXX and I'm currently 18 years old studying in a university in california. these past years , black spots have been appearing on my lips. sometimes they are less visible, other days they are darker. I'm not sure when they have first appeared. This summer I went to a dermotologist and he said it may be a sign of peutz-jeghers syndrome, but he told me not to worry about it since my chances are very low since these spots didn't show up until a few years ago and I don't have any relatives that jhave the syndrome I think. I don't experience the syndromes as well . I was wonderg if you can share any input on this please ? I also wear a mouth guard at night (ii and I also have b2 deficiency ( I have a history of chapped lips ever since I was little) thank you very much!

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have gone through your query and I have also reviewed the Image.
These are labial lentigines. They may be sign of nothing else and can be an isolated finding. Though peutz zeghar's syndrome and laugier hunziker syndrome can also have these sorts of lesions and in that case they usually appear at birth and also during childhood.
Regards

Wow thank you very much! so could you tell me what caused it? and I's there anything I can do to hide or mitigate the appearance?
Brief Answer:
Q Switched Nd:Yag Laser is effective
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Lentigines are due to localised excess melanocytic proliferation and activity in epidermis. Lentigines are actually quite common on skin and appear as well-defined dark brown or black spots. On lips they usually appear after 40 years of age.
Lentigines are otherwise benign. You may use a sunscreen which would prevent them from darkening further. Q switched Nd:Yag laser is effective for removing pigmented melanocytic lesions such as these. However, new one may appear later.
However, I also suggest an opinion from a gastroenterologist regarding whether he would suggest any screening for polyps or not?
