What Are The Symptoms Of Hypothyroidism?

Question: Normal levels of tsh and t4 and low t3. Hypothyroid? I have classic stmptoms of hypothyroid. Thinning eyebrows and hair, tired, muscle pain and dry skin

Thanks for your query.

The symptoms you mentioned are common in hypothyroidism,but report of your TFT(Thyroid function test) is not suggestive.

In hypothyroidism,the first parameter to be affected is TSH(it becomes high).Then only T3 and T4 become affected.
So changes in levels of T3/T4 in the back ground of a normal TSH level is not supportive of the diagnosis of hypothyroidism.

In such instances,I usually advise my patients to undergo a repeat TFT after about 2 weeks with measurement of Free T3/T4 rather than Total T3/T4.This will give a more clear idea,as total T3/T4 levels are affected by factors like serum protein levels.
