What Are The Symptoms Of Lung Cancer?
Question: hi, had an abdominal and pelvic CT scan for diverticulitis. all organs looked normal. no diverticulitis but mild diverticulosis on left side. i am however terrified that they found a 3mm groundglass nodule in my lower left lung a d mild bibasilar atclectasis in the lower left lung. should i be thinking it's lung cancer.

I have reviewed your information fully and these findings are not typical or very suggestive of lung cancer. This is very tinny and at 3mm, it is very very unlikely to be. While they certainly need to be looked into, at this time I would term them incidental findings. I will like to compare these findings to any previous lung images that are available to see if there has been any changes. Also, I will like to know if you have risk factors for lung cancer Such as smoking tobacco. If these are lacking and there is no other information that even raises the suspicion of a possible cancer, then monitoring with a followup examination and imaging at 3, 6 and 12months would be enough.
In all, these are incidental findings and not suggestive of cancer. We would need to review risk factors and past images to see if there are any worrisome signs. If not, we would follow up with controls at 3, 6 and 12months just to make sure this nodule is stable and there us nothing serious that we are missing out on at this time.

thank you for your quick response. never was a smoker. was in a home that had aspestus work done in about 11 years ago. had a chest xray 3 years ago would an xray show this they did t mention it. i do get bronchitis once or twice a year and i have had pneumonia 3 times could that be what they saw. the CT scan was worh contrast.

Asbetos at this time is just a No NO. Though a known risk factor for cancers, this is simple not possible at this time. Asbetos is a risk factors to workers who spend significant time working in these environments.
In all, there are no red flags that make cancers a huge concern at this time. Relax and we would look into this just to make sure there is nothing we are undermining at this time.
