Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back,
Yes pneumonia can cause decreased O2 saturartion in night but active pneumonia has other symptoms too, like fever tachy cardia ,,high brething rate etc.
This needs evaluation by a pulmonologist, I will hereby mention some other possibilities here as well,
possibilities:
1) Sleep apnoea:
In obese people tongue and respiratory passages have fat in them so they get narrowed specially when the person sleeps, these causes snoring and blockage of respiration during sleep specially in people who mostly sleep on their back. Some times breathing stops and a person wakes up gasping for air...
Reducing weight in such people can work wonder and proves to be the best drug.
2) ACE inhibitors:
You are taking licinopril for your BP which is an ACE inhibiotor, it is side effect of ACE inhibitor that they cause dry cough.
You might want to discuss this side effect with your doctor.
3) Lung allergy:
Wheeze and cough can also indicate lung allergy , you might wann take asthma meds like anti histamin , inhaler , mast cell stabilizers for this problem.
4) Pneumonia:
It can be a cause but as i said it has other symptoms too , to go along with lung issues.
SUGGESTIONS:
1) Reduce weight.
2) Don't sleep on your back.
3)You can use the inhaler.
4) Steam inhallation.
5) Visit a GP and discuss the cause of it including licinopril side effect.
Things don't seem much serious but need proper diagnosis and management :)
Wish you the very best of luck,
Regards
Dr.Muhammad Ahmad
