Question: My friend has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. I want to help him, but I'm not a counselor. He has meds (don't know what) and he is out of them. I know just being a friend can help, but what else?

Brief Answer:
Probably a visit to a psychiatrist for the prescription is needed.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The medications used to treat paranoid schizophrenia are usually prescribed medication. I would suggest to consult a psychiatrist for a physical examination and also the prescription.

Other suggestions that I can give are:
- Psychotherapy is very effective to cope with stress and identify early signs of relapse
- Social skills training help in training for daily life activities.
- Join a support group.

In general this category of patients needs support is daily basis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
