Brief Answer:
Don't give up.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

I have seen the attached pictures. I understand that your baby is very sick. She has got severe intestinal infection and blood sepsis. Survival chances are still there.

Nothing can be said for sure in babies. We have managed to make few of such babies survive, even though many have died due to NEC and sepsis.

Don't lose hope. Keep faith in your hospital. I pray that your baby should get better soon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Ask about surgery

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Why don't you discuss about possibility of surgery for NEC? Sometimes in severe cases it may help, though chances of improvement is not much.

The rest of the treatment looks as per protocol and you need to follow your doctor's advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Can you explain the reason why a premature child would be affected with NEC and blood sepsis? And thank u doctor!

Answered by Dr. Arun (19 hours later)
Brief Answer:
Premature gut is prone to infections.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Prematurity per say is a risk factor for NEC and sepsis. This is because of the immature premature gut which allows bad bacteria to migrate from the gut to the blood. The immune system is immature too.

NEC also can be triggered by formula feeds and maternal infection in the genital tract etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank u, what is the expected time to show progress or to worsen the case in other word how long should we wait before we know if she is gonna die or live and if she lived would she be normal?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Arun (20 hours later)
Brief Answer:
At least a week more.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

You can wait for a week more to see if NEC improves or not. If no improvement then there is almost nil chance of improvement later.

If she lived she may be normal, but if the brain is damaged, abnormalities will be there. No sure way to find out how much the abnormality will be.

Hope I have answered your query.
