What Can I Do Now I Have Had Toenail Fungus On Two Toenails On My Right Foot?
Question: I’ve had toenail fungus on two toenails on my right foot (large toe and small toe) for nearly fifteen years. The large toenail is the more significant of the two. The nail is thickened and yellowed with white bands.
I’ve tried laser treatments—a total of three. The first was two treatments with one type of laser and the second was a single treatment with a different type. Both types of treatment failed.
I use a UV-C sanitizer for my shoes after wearing them. I wear cotton socks and change them frequently.
I’ve also tried an OTC urea treatment that seemed to dissolve the nail. It grew back, but the fungus remained.
For now, I keep the nail closely trimmed and file down the top surface of the nail to minimize thickening.
What can I do now? I’m cautious of oral medications, and even those have a poor success rate.

Hi, I have provided some attachments. Please review them.
Brief Answer:
Use fluconazole
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the photograph.
Superficial nail plate is damaged by fungus however the nail matrix is healthy and hence your nail is able to regrow.
Topical medication won't be helpful as they are not able to penetrate the entire thickness of nail.
Oral medication is required.
Tablet fluconazole 150 mg once a week is highly effective, however you need to continue it for at least 6 months.
In addition to this please apply ointment Terbinafine twice daily for 6 months.
This should help you.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
