What Can Be Said About Deranged ESR Values When Diagnosed With Crohn's Disease And Fibromyalgia?

I have been diagnosed with Chrones and Fibromyaglia.
My last blood test showed I was 220 with calprotectin and my ESR was 109. CRP 6
My Dr doesnt think the ESR is all bowel because when my calprotectin has been in the thousands my esr blood results have only been 36..
If it is not all bowel ...then where do you start?
If you are asymptomatic then no tests are required.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing us for your query my dear patient,
Have seen your details.
ESR basically is a very non specific test and sensitivity is also quiet low.Basically it can be deranged in any sort of inflammation in body. The test is highly non specific and it stands no where in comparison to more sensitive and latest tests like serum calprotectin. In todays world only significance of ESR and CRP is in patients with Arthritis and chronic tuberculosis.
Crohns and fibromyalgia both are inflammatory conditions in body hence markers like ESR and CRP would always be deranged in such cases.
If you don't have any symptom then you need not to worry. As these are chronic inflammatory conditions these markers would always remain deranged.
Serum calprotectin is highly sensitive and important test for you considering your crohns disease.
In easy words if calprotectin is a latest smart phone then ESR is a cell phone of early nineties(just for explaining you).
Hope, I explained you details in easy language.
Feel free to follow up.
Thanks.
