What Can Be The Negative Effects Of Radiation During MRI And CT Scans?

Question: my son is 9 years old and is being investigated as a consequence to having Tic signs involving involuntary arm and neck movements. Dr has ordered CT Brain. I am worried about radiation levels. Can you rule out other serious conditions using MRI instead of CT? My son also has recovered from Alapacia Totalis in the past year or so, could this be re-triggered with radiation from a CT?
Thanks concerned parent

Brief Answer:
I would recommend an EEG and MRI instead of CT
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. I appreciate that you are considerate about radiation exposure due to CT Scan.
In cases of tics in this age group, there is a need to rule out epilepsy. I would recommend an EEG (Electroencephalogrm ) and MRI Brain as that are investigation of choice rather than CT brain.
In case, they are normal then a behavioural therapy with psychotherapist will help you to treat him.
Hopefully this will help you. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care
