What Can Cause Abdominal Swelling While Dealing With Diabetes?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Aug 2018
Question: I am a diabetic. Over the last three weeks I can not get a blood sugar reading below 200. Take Metformin ER 500mil. 2 Times a day plus 76 units of Treciba long acting insulin a day. My wife had noticed a swelling of the abdomen and I seen that a feeling of over fullness never seems to leave me.
What could this be?

Brief Answer:
About your concerns;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I can understand your concern.
From your description i think it could be abdominal hernia (a hernia occurs when an organ, most often intestines, pushes through an opening in the muscle or tissue that holds it in place).
Of course it needs a detailed clinical examination and an abdominal ultrasound to be confirmed.
Regarding to the high blood sugar, I would suggest to start also rapid acting insulin, except of Tresiba.
The dose of Tresiba is high and a rapid acting insulin before each meal would be helpful to lower glucose levels.
You should see a physician to modify the treatment of Diabetes and to make the diagnosis of the abdominal mass you described.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

There no pain in the swollen abdomen. Am undergoing physical therapy for leg pain and am not experiencing any pain.
It fills bloated and uncomfortable but is not stoping any activity. Could it be a inflammation of some type? It is not going away and I need to know what to do? I am a long way from home and to know a direction to try

Thanks
