What Can Cause Constant Petechiae In The Mouth?
Question: have been getting petechiae in my mouth for the past four months. The first time was in late November I had on spot on my soft palate. The second was after a dental exam in December I had a few spots on the palate again and one blood blister on my cheek. I had nothing in January and in February I had petechiae on both cheeks went away in a week. Along with a few under my tounge. A week later small blood blister just inside my lip and on my left cheek, but I bit my cheek during lunch. The next week some small petechiae on my left cheek went away in a week I also have very visible Linea XXXXXXX there. And nothing for a week till today. I drank a shake that was pretty thick with a straw and when I got home i had a few small petechiae on my soft palate again. Every time it is gone in 5 days. I have seen my dr who examined them and said its nothing worry about and ordered no labs. I also saw an oral surgeon who looked at some of them and was not concerned. I have no other symptoms such as petechie on my body, no fever, pain or fatigue. I work out 5 days a week lifting heavy weights, but for some reason I still think something is wrong with me. Last time I had blood work was mid August and everything was fine.
Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
After hearing your history as you are having petechiae in your mouth for the past four months i would advise you to take plenty of vitamin C.
You can take plenty of citrus fruits, potatoes, broccoli and strawberries.
Vitamin C deficiency cause symptoms like this.
As you blood work is normal i think you do not need to worry and as you do weightlifting 5 days a week one other cause can be due to lifting of heavy weights.
You just need to shorten your duration of workout.
If you have more queries i will be glad to help.
Regards.

My platelets were low in July I was at 121,000 but I had three viral infections in XXXXXXX and one the week I had my CBC done. I was also borderline anemic. I was retested in august and I was fine. Platelets were 155,000 and I'm usually around 155-160. My concern about the petechaie is some cancer or ITP. When I told my dr this he said that never entered his mind. And told me not to worry. If it was serious would I have more symptoms in addition to the petechaie?
Brief Answer:
Not having cancer or ITP.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Your platelets are absolutely normal.
As you are having no history of weight loss, lump or bleeding i do not think you are having any cancer or ITP
If you have more queries i will be glad to help.

No weight loss have actually put on 12 lbs since the summer no bleeding except a dry cracking nasal septum during the winter but it has cleared up with the warmer weather.
Is petechaie often the first sign of cancer? Also if someone has cancer would their petechaie come and go? Lastly if it's not due to cancer or ITP what would cause me to keep getting it and why only in my mouth?
Thank you
Oh one last thing the petechaie I got yesterday on the roof of my mouth is almost gone I only have a couple of the larger spots left.

Brief Answer:
No chance of leukemia or any other blood cancer.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
It would not get larger and spread and likely to slowly disappear on its own.
Since you are not having symptoms such as pain, fever, infections and night sweats and your blood work is normal there is no chance of leukemia or other blood cancers.
Wish you the best of health.
Regards.

So in other words it would get larger and spread? I assume since this first showed up late November and no other symptoms such as pain fevers infections night sweats all those things and other symptoms associated with leukemia and other blood cancers for the past four months it would highly unlikely it is serious?
Brief Answer:
they are not likely to be petechiae.
Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
The spots you have on your wrist and shin do not seem to be like petechiae.
Moreover, it doesn't present as raised red dots.

Can petechaie present as single raised red dots almost like a pimple or follicits where if I scratch it off there will be a small drop of blood then scab up and go away? I ask because I have 3 spots like that on my shin and one on my wrist, they were raised almost pimple or round scratches. They were not clustered together they were a few inches apart from each other.
Thank you.
So since it's just in my mouth probably lack of vitamin c? Can trauma do this as well? I know you said weight loss is often the first sign of a cancer, what are some other signs that would raise a red flag?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Trauma can also lead to patechia.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes, trauma can also lead to petechia.
After trauma petechia looks like a small red or purple pin point dot on the body due to broken capillary blood vessels.
Some other signs that would raise a red flag are coughing, chest pain, breathlessness, changes in bowel habits, lumps in the neck, underarm or groin area, anorexia, weakness, fatigue, feeling full and unable to eat
If you have more queries i will be glad to help.

I uploaded a picture of the spots on my shin to see if you think they are petechaie
Brief Answer:
Blood test for bleeding and clotting time.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I would advise you to do a blood test for bleeding and clotting time.
If it is normal then it may be due to trauma.
If it is abnormal then further investigations are needed to rule out any form of malignancy

Should I be concerned now? These spots are kind of raised I can feel them on my skin and when I took a shower they stung like scratches.
For years I have gotten random red marks on my legs that would bleed and i always thougt
They were scratches could it be petechaie all this time? And how possible would a malignancy be when I have no other symptoms?

Brief Answer:
Bone Marrow Test.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
As you are having random red marks over years the red spots could be trauma marks and not any kind of malignancy.
But however after seeing the pictures of the red spots on your shin I would advise you to do a bone marrow testing in which a sample of bone marrow will be taken from your hip bone for testing under microscope by pathologists to rule out malignancy.
Regards.
