What Can Cause Period Delay?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jan 2025
Question: Hello Doctor,

My period has started on 1st of April which was not my actual date & it was very minimal.
From 4th of April, I have the period that I will get regularly & it extended till 14th of April.
But the flow after 14th got reduced but didnt stop.
Even today, my period didnt stop & is still continuing with a very minimal flow.
Not sure what was the reason but the actual period date was on 26th of every month but that has changed this month.
Regular periods will last for 3 to 5 days but this time it's like almost all 21 days.
Please suggest how can I get out of this.

Brief Answer:
Can be hormonal disturbance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The prolonged period with a heavy bleeding that you are having can happen due to a hormonal disturbance or a uterine fibroid or polyp. This needs a few investigations like hormonal profile and ultrasound scan to find out the exact cause.
Till then you can start with iron supplements to combat the blood loss from your body. You also need to consult your gynecologist for prescription hormonal tablets to stop this bleeding. Do start with regular oral contraceptive pills after proper investigations to regularize your periods.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
