Brief Answer:
You should definitely consult a pulmonologist.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
In my opinion, you should definitely consult a pulmonologist.
You are having chronic cough and you are a heavy smoker.
So we need to rule out bronchitis and lung infection for your symptoms.
So consult pulmonologist and get done a clinical examination of the respiratory system, chest x-ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
A chest x-ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is a must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
Please quit smoking as soon as possible.
Hope I have solved your query.
