What Can Cause Severe Intermittent Pain In The Foot Despite Taking Medication?

Question: Severe foot pain next to the big toe , it will come and go and is worse laying down trying to sleep. I have used a lot of different topical , have had nerve studies. Had several injections in the back and foot, had surgery on the back l3 l4 to remove stenosis , have cyst in the l3 area, that was supposed to have been removed but is still there. Dr says it shouldn't be apt problem. Any ideas?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Your symptom is likely to be due to the pinching of the nerve in the back bone. An MRI of the lumbar spine will be able to confirm that.
You may get symptomatic relief with Neurontin (Gabapentin) 300mg at bed time.
Another possibility of your symptom can be due to deposition of uric acid at the site of pain.
You can get a blood uric acid checked and if it is high, allopurinol may be able to reduce the same and give you relief.
Hope this helps.
