What Cases Anosmia After 8 Weeks Of Inhaling Toxic Smoke?

Question: i had asked the doctor earlier. Due to inhaling toxic smoke I had lost considerable sense of smell. I cannot detect mild odors such as fluids (rain), plants, grass. When in a large room or outside I feel like I cannot take in enough air. I had been a heavy smoker but am now down to 6 cigarettes per day (due to stress from loss of smell doctor advised cutting down but one each week). My question is: it has now been 8 weeks and no improvement. At first I was getting black tissue coming out but now it is either clear, white or a little yellow. Is there anything I can do? I have heard that once the nasal membranes are damaged (possibly the case here) they cannot be healed. I have also heard that if smell does not return in 6 weeks it is not coming back. What I inhaled for about 10 minutes was dried lotus leaves through a filtered pipe (old Asian remedy| but obviously heat and most likely chemicals caused severe damage. Original issue was nerve sensitivity.

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.
I understand your concerns well over here. However,in such cases, sense of smell usually improves after weeks to months.Although 8 weeks have already passed, but you need to give it some more time for observation. It may take a few months in some cases, for recovery. You need to be reassured and hopeful.
Hope that helps. If you have some further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
