What Casues Breathlessness When Suffering From Cough And Cold?

Need to rule out other conditions; diet change
Detailed Answer:
Hello sir and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and shall try my best to help you with the information you require.
First, could you kindly provide me with your height and weight sir, I would like to calculate your basal metabolic index (BMI).
Next, if at all the breathlessness is due to poor stamina and being overweight, then you need changes in your lifestyle which mainly include diet and exercise.
45 minutes of cardio workout should suffice per day, as it is mainly to build your stamina and boost metabolism. But please make sure you workout a total of 45 minutes, and also regularly change your exercise routine (at least once a month). Along with this a strict and healthy diet will also be required sir. Please consult a nutrition at your gym who will monitor and alter your diet regimen, according to your exercise regimen.
Although you are a young male, I would still advise a general physical examination which should include a cardio check. Making sure your heart is healthy will help us to confirm that weight and/or stamina is the only cause for your breathlessness.
Could you also answer a few questions of mine sir, I hope you do not mind:
-Any allergies (history?)
-Recent change in residence?
-Recent climate change?
-Family history of chronic diseases?
-Rate your level of stress on a scale of 5, 0 being relaxed and 5 being very stressful
I hope you find my response helpful sir. I look forward to hearing from you, and helping you further sir.
Best wishes sir.

Height- 5"9, weight-90 kg.
Any allergies (history?)-No
Recent change in residence?-
Recent climate change?-Yes, I shifted from XXXXXXX to XXXXXXX around 1.5 years back
Family history of chronic diseases?-None
Rate your level of stress on a scale of 5-Difficult to assess but I would say 3
Some more questions that I would request you to answer.
--My cardio exercise includes treadmill, cycling and cross walker (15 minutes each) However you have suggested to change it every month, so what could be the change? (any illustrative example)
--While doing cardio exercise what should be my heart rate?
--Should I do only cario in gym or should i lift weights?
--Some one told me that breathlessness could be high BP, is it true?
Thank you for the info; queries addressed sir
Detailed Answer:
Hello once again sir.
Thank you so much for that information.
Your BMI is 29.3 which puts you under the category of being 'overweight', and you are very close to the upper limit, putting you at a risk of being 'obese'. This could clearly be a contributing factor to your breathlessness sir.
From the information provided, you seem to have changed base a while ago, did your breathlessness start sometime after shifting to Mumbai? Or was it present even earlier?
I would be more than happy to help you with your new queries sir:
-Changing your workout would include any changes, as is illustrated:
+ 30 minutes on the treadmill and 15 minutes cycling (for one week)
+ 15 minutes cross walking, 15 minutes cycling and 15 minutes swimming
+ 30 minutes cycling and 15 minutes mild weight lifting
+ 45 minutes on the treadmill
and so on sir, I am sure you get the jist of it.
The reason why I suggest such regular changes, is because the body gets used to the workout and after a while stops responding, which is why you have to keep changing the regimen.
-For your age, your heart rate must be between 90-160 beats per minute sir, and it shouldn't cross 170.
- You surely can include weights as well, but the same is implied;
+ One day biceps and chest
+ Triceps and shoulders
+ Back
+ Legs and forearms
-Breathlessness can have various causes to it sir, and one of the most common causes (worrying) is a cardiac abnormality, which is also linked to high blood pressure. So the answer is partially correct, breathlessness can be brought about by hypertension (high blood pressure), but that is not the only cause; so if at all anyone does have breathlessness it does not mean he/she has high blood pressure.
I hope I have answered your queries in a manner best understood by you sir. If at all I have failed to do so, or if you have any further clarifications, please do not hesitate to write back to me. I would be more than happy to assist you.
Best wishes sir.

Secondly, you have suggested cardio check, so what are the tests to be done? Any good diagnostics lab would do that?
Regards,
XXXX
Details mentioned as requested sir
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
That means we cannot blame XXXXXXX for the breathlessness entirely, it could just be that your weight increased after relocating. But if physical activity does increase the breathlessness, then cardiac health should be assessed.
Cardiac health can be assessed by the following sir:
- Echocardiogram (ECG/EKG)
- 2D echo scan of the heart
-Treadmill test
These tests should suffice sir. Yes sir, any and every hospital should have the facilities to conduct the above mentioned investigations.
Do not hesitate to write back to me with the results, I shall help interpret them. But I am sure this is nothing serious, and weight is our only concern.
Be safe and healthy,
God bless.
