What Casues Chest Pain When Suffering From Inflamed Esophagus?
Prognosis depends on final diagnosis!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported and all the disturbing thought going through your mind at this time. We would help you shed more light on what is possibly going on and what the prognosis is.
Esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus) has an excellent prognosis if the cause is identified and managed correctly. The most common cause is acid reflux and when managed correctly, symptoms would disappear and there are basically little or no long term complications. Should this have been going on for long, there is a risk of Barrett's esophagus that would mandate long term monitoring. For now, we need to wait for the biopsy results before rushing as to what the exact prognosis here is.
In all, the prognosis would depend largely on the final diagnosis: Barrett's esophagus or not. If there is no modifications of the cells of the lower esophagus from repeated aggression(Barrett's), treatment would be highly succesful with excellent prognosis. Should there be Barrett's esophagus, monitoring would be encouraged to timely diagnose and manage any complications.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
2months is largely insufficient for Barrett's!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up precision.
It takes years with symptoms poorly managed to get to Barrett's. With barely 2 months of these symptoms, it is impossible to have that.
Yes, Barrett's is suggestive on EGD and confirmed by biopsy.
I hope this helps. I wish you well.
Inflammation is esophagitis!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up precision.
For sure, this is an acute inflammatory reaction and not Barrett's. The presentation of Barrett's is not an inflammation but rather transformation of the lining of the lower esophagus into that similar to the stomach lining.
Chest pain. Nausea, cough. etc are all suggestive of esophagitis as well. Barrett's is more about the histology and often without symptoms of inflammation of the esophagus.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to keep the discussion going if need be.
Keep me updated after the visit!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for your kind words.
Keep me updated after the visit with your GI doctor tomorrow.
I wish you well. I look forward hearing from you!
THanks!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.
Gastritis and esophagitis are all treated with the same drug. Talk to your doctors tomorrow and let's see where that takes you too and what more we can do to lighten the burden and relief your symptoms.
I wish you well.
Thanks for your kind words!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank for your kind words. I am humbled by this.
I join you in celebrating the OK biopsy report. With a modification of your treatment, I am optimistic and positive about an improvement in symptoms. Let us know how well you are fairing after this evaluation and treatment adjustment.
I don't communicate directly with Dr. XXXXXXX I will suggest that you rate his response and write a review to him. This is the best way to extend your appreciation and acknowledgment of his contribution through this medium.
I hope this helps. I await further exchanges whenever the need arises.
sections of the esophageal biopsy show squamous mucosa with a neutrophilic inflammatory infiltrate within the epithelium Reactive changes are noted.
stomach shows antral-type gastric mucosa with a minimal lymploplasmacytic inflammatory infiltrate within the lamina propria
Are you able to clarify that for me?
Also, is milk allowed and ice cream? Thanks again
See below!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up precision.
It is very important to understand what the report says. In a nut's shell, these are markers of inflammation on biopsy. These cells are suggestive of inflammation that confirms the diagnosis of esophagitis. The antral part of the stomach being involved suggest some inflammatory changes going on as well.
Please, eat milk and ice cream. Should you have pains fro consuming these products, then go ahead and stop but do not anticipate as nothing beats personal experience.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Let me know if there is something more that you would want us do for you.
There should be no restriction on your diet!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up precision.
Your diet should not be restricted. eat like there was nothing and should you not tolerate any food stuffs, then go ahead and stay away from them. There is no way knowing what is good or bad other than giving it a try. No two persons react the case to different substances and that is why I always prefer that persons listen to their body than going with general opinion unless there is strong evidence that clearly forbids that.
Your drugs are good for the condition you have been diagnosed of. Take the medications and we shall see the progress of treatment in the days ahead. be positive and optimistic about this.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. I would be glad to address any further worries should any be.
Thanks so much!!
Thanks for your kind words!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up question and your kind words. I am truly humbled by them.
With these findings on EGD, it is very likely to report these pains. This is comparable to having a wound on just any other part of your body. It would pain until it completely heals. With the definitive diagnosis now established and treatment on the way, I expect these symptoms to regress gradually over time and disappear with complete healing. Should this fail to happen, we would be digging further to see if there are some other things we should be doing that we are not addressing right now.
I hope this helps. Keep me updated as your progress on treatment. Always a pleasure responding to your concerns.
40mg is more potent than 20mg!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
40mg is more potent than 20mg. In severe cases, increasing the dosage suppresses to greater extend acid production and helps with healing more than lower doses.
I like being logical and simple. We are trying new things/dosages and should give ourselves sometime to tell whether we are doing the right things or need to adjust accordingly.
For now, take the treatment as prescribed. Be optimistic and positive about the outcome. Evaluation would provide more information on which we can act to arrive at our end goals, get you to feeling a lot better and lead a pain free live.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. I remain your humble servant who longs to lighten the burden off your shoulders.
Its weird. I don't seem to get heartburn just pain in chest and back
P.s. how long does it take for meds to really start working? Thanks again
Also I have been getting pain in throat off and on
See below!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your anxiety about this. It is normal to think and act in this way.
These drugs should really start working right away. There would be an initial decrease in the intensity of the pains and this would be followed by a gradual decline over several weeks before complete healing and resolution of pain.
Heart burn is caused by acid reflux. with a drug that has stopped excess acid production in the short run, this would not be the case anymore. However, healing of the inflamed lesions seen in the esophagus and stomach would take some more time and this is why the pain would stay on a little longer than the acid reflux heartburn pain.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to keep the discussion going further should there be need. Otherwise, report your progress to me in a week's time for appreciation.
