What Casues Dark Bowel Movement?
Question: I had a bowel movement tonight that was really dark.when I wiped it was dark brown,over a week ago I took liquid iron only once,I had a colonspy done in nov.of 2013.and everything was normal.I eat a lot of grapes .I am 72 .I was talking to one of the Dr.a few nights ago on here with a different question,could you please give me your opinion.my e-mail is YYYY@YYYY sometimes my rectum is sore when I wipe after a bowel movement ,when I do go for a bowel movement it seems I have to wipe a few times

If you are sure that stool is really dark you need to get worked up again. You may want to check the stools again. If it persists to be dark , you need both upper GI. endoscopy and colonoscopy. Sometimes fissure or hemarroids can bleed but that is XXXXXXX blood but not altered stools.
How long have you been on iron supplement - If iron was taken one week ago, it doesn't cause alteration in stools a week later.
You said you have been taking lots of grape juice. If you been taking grape juice in the past and had no issues with stools, then it may not be related.
It is always better to get investigated since upper GI bleed can cause stool alterations and if neglected will make you anemic.

I had the colonscpy on nov.23rd of 2013 and it was fine .so would it be from the top or the bottom.
