What Cause Low Glucose Reactions When On Glyburide?

Question: my son has recently had metformin added to the glyburide he has been on for years he has liver damage from a liver disease having side effects the medicine has him having sugar lows and weakness can his liver be futher damanged
Brief Answer:
Diabetes
Detailed Answer:
I am sorry to hear about the low glucose reactions your son is experiencing. Glyburide is notorious for causing these. I have stopped using glyburide for this reason. I generally prefer glimepiride for this purpose, provided metformin alone is not enough. I noted the liver condition he has. Metformin should be avoided if the liver problem is severe. There are other medications now that help diabetes but do not lower the glucose level below normal. Speak to your local doctor preferably an endicrinologist to see if a category of medications called DPP4 inhibitors are appropriate for your son
